Friday 24th of February, 9am St Joseph’s had their school Swimming Sports at the Whakatane Aquatic Centre. Our aim was to do our best and support each other.

Last Thursday our seniors held their annual social.

The theme this year was “New York Alley”

The atmosphere was electric, our young ladies and young gentleman were a picture to behold.

Congratulations to Sean and Mollie on becoming King and Queen.

BP Technology Challenge

Today two year 7 & 8 and two year 4.5 & 6 teams competed in this years BP Technology Challenge held at War Memorial Hall.

We had two challenges, the first was to make a spade out of cardboard (from a box), cellotape, string, and newspaper. Our spades had to be able to move a pile of dirt from one tarpoline to another 1 metre away spilling as little as possible.

The Year 7 & 8 (Team 1) one this challenge in the Intermediate category while the Year 4,5 and 6 (Team 2) came second in the Middle category.

Our second challenge was to make a backpack style bag that had to be worn on one team members back filled with as many tennis balls as possible, then walked 2o metres without loosing any of the contents. Again this was made out of newspaper, cellotape and we also had a sticky label which had to display a logo of our choice.

No teams placed in this challenge however great fun was had by all. We had a great team of cleaner uppers, who did a fantastic job throughout the day. We were also supported by a great team of parents, Mike and Joelene Chelley and Greg and Melissa Jensen.

Year 7 & 8

Team 1: Sean McCarthy, Joseph Alison, Josef Stoove, Alisha Dabb, Savannah Wilmott.

Team 2: Mollie Jensen, Michaela Hussey, Maea Herangi, Matt Sinkinson, Caithlin Truter.

Year 4,5 and 6

Team 1: Venja Klar, Dylan Chelley, Jade Wahapango, Joshua Hussey, Gregory Lewis.

Team 2: Mitchell White, Kate Spring, Eilish Cox, Isaac Jensen, Suzannah Wilson.

Clean up crew: Tammy Bezuidenhoudt, Tyrone Cox, Cormac Marshall, TeRina Paul.

Taneatua 7′s

Today a team of Yr 7 & 8 boys and 5 & 6 boys participated in the Taneatua 7′s tournament.

A great day was had by all with the Yr 5 & 6 winning their division plate and the Yr 7 & 8′s coming third in their division.

They were accompanied by Mr MacKenzie and Mrs White.

Fijian Training at Rugby Park

”fun, exciting, nerve-racking, awesome, amazing and interesting are words our students used to describe how they felt about watching the Fijian rugby players train at Rugby Park. There were cheers, laughter and sighs of awe from the crowds, we even did the Mexican wave while up in the stands.
